Google announced custom URL for Google+ Pages and Profiles that was only accessible by top brands and celebrities. Recently, Google has started rolling out custom Google+ URL for all users and pages that meet a minimum requirement.
Custom URL is a shortened form of Google+ profile or page URL that is easier to market over the web. Custom URL makes it easier for people to remember so that they can directly go to that address whenever they want without having to search for it.
According to Google, if your account is older than 30 days and if you have at least 10 followers and if you have a profile picture, you are eligible for a custom URL. However, there is no way to manually request for a custom URL as Google is sending out emails with its suggested pre-approved custom URL. Keep an eye out on your inbox for emails like the following.
If Google’s pre-approved URL is perfect for you, you can just click “Get URL” button and follow the procedures to finish owning the URL. If, however, you decide to make changes, you can do so by clicking the same button but requesting a different address on the follow-up pages.
Google will take a couple of days to review your new request and you will not be able to request for another address in the meantime.
Facebook rolled out usernames for its users a long time ago and since then, people could redirect their friends to facebook.com/username so that they didn’t have to search for them. Similar was activated for Facebook Pages as well. Typically requiring 25 likes, Page admins can get a username/custom URL for their page for easier access. The Facebook page of Live with Google is at facebook.com/LivewithGoogle.
Have you already received a pre-approved custom Google+ URL for your profile/page or are you still waiting for one?
