Google’s self-driving car to this day sounds like a thing from the future. It isn’t mainstream yet, because people are still not comfortable with a car in the streets that has a mind of its own. But if you take 2 minutes out of your busy life to watch the video that Google published demonstrating how Google’s self-driving car sees the world and treats everyone when it’s in the streets, you might be more comfortable with cars with a mind of its own than with cars that are driven by often careless people.
There’s not really much to say here if you watch the video. It shows exactly how Google’s self-driving car treats everything in the streets and how it keeps safety on top of everything. My favorite part is where the car understands the hand signal of a bi-cyclist even when he’s repeatedly changing his mind. The good news is, while it works, it won’t piss the computer that’s running the self-driving car. Now imagine the spark of swear words if that were to happen to a car being driven by an actual human being.
Google in the video admits that there’s still a lot of work to do in order to improve the self-driving car. While to the naked eye it looks perfect as it is now, it might take Google a while to convince the authorities to get permission for this computer car to roam around in the streets of other states.
Meanwhile, if you happen to bump into a self-driving car in Mountain View, California, don’t worry too much. You’re safe around it.
